Sorry.

  • Listening To Reel Big Fish-The Joke's On Me
I don't know if anyone actually looks at this anymore, but this entry isn't an entry, I'm just using this pathetic little blog as a means of printing some files, because I currently don't have a printer. Or a flash drive. Oops. Well, maybe sometime in the near future, I will have an actual entry, but it most likely won't be about my life, because it is so very, very boring.

In this day and age, especially within the United States, homosexuality is one of the most controversial social and scientific topics. For a long period, it was widely accepted that homosexuality was caused mainly by environmental factors (i.e. a person is essentially “made” gay by societal means, such as parental involvement in the child's life, religious upbringing, etc...), but in recent years there has been an increase in studies that suggest the opposite: that a homosexual is actually born that way. This ever growing segment of scientific research reflects the long standing beliefs of the majority of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) community, who have thought that homosexuality was biologically caused since before most of this research emerged. There are those who are still skeptical of these new findings, but as more studies are released, it becomes harder to deny that homosexuality is a result of biology, not the environment.

Name: __________________________________ Recitation Section: ___________

Go to the Web site of the Committee to Protect Journalists at www.CPJ.org

Explore the site, including the sections near the top left called “… Journalists killed in 2007” and “Journalists Deaths in Iraq Spike in 2006 / Worldwide Toll Rises.”

Summarize the site’s purpose in one specific paragraph.

The purpose of the CPJ's website is to inform the public of the Committee's purpose, protecting the rights of journalists to freely publish the truth without fear of repercussion from a government or any organization that may not want the public to be informed on current events. The website also reports on attacks to or the deaths of members of the press with motives related to stopping the flow of information from press to public.

Also, give your reaction in 100-200 words.

I'm glad this organization exists, and after reading through the website, I was surprised I had never heard of them before. One would expect a group devoted solely devoted to the protection of the press and the right that they have to publish the information they gather. Regardless, I was also surprised to find the high number of deaths in the press that go unreported by the mainstream media, I guess they don't want us to know exactly how we get our information, the sacrifices made in order to inform the public of what is really going on; although, that might just be the conspiracy theorist in me.
